Georgia Suppressor Hunting Laws: Legal to Hunt With Silencers

Suppressors (silencers) are fully legal for hunting in Georgia — both for deer and all other game including wild hogs, coyotes, and varmints. This page covers what you need to know.

Legal Requirements

  1. Federal Form 4 approval from ATF (current wait time ~8-12 months)
  2. Transfer through a Class 3 SOT dealer in Georgia
  3. Possession must be by the individual on the approved Form 4 (or trust members if trust-registered)
  4. $200 federal tax stamp per suppressor

Why Hunt With Suppressors?

  • Hearing protection — permanent hearing damage can occur with unsuppressed rifles, especially short-barrel ARs
  • Reduced muzzle flash — better post-shot vision for follow-up shots
  • Less game spook — especially effective on hog groups and coyotes
  • Courteous to neighbors — rural property boundaries often close to homes
