Georgia is a permitless carry state. Since Senate Bill 319 took effect in April 2022, any lawful weapons carrier, meaning an adult who is eligible for a Georgia Weapons Carry License and is not otherwise barred from having a gun, may carry a handgun openly or concealed without a license. The license still matters, because it is what other states recognize under reciprocity and what some settings ask for. Residents apply at the Henry County Probate Court. The statutory fee is $77 including fingerprints, renewal is $30, and the license runs five years.
For the 2026 license year, Georgia archery deer season runs Sept. 12 through Oct. 9, 2026, primitive weapons and youth-only firearms run Sept. 12 through Jan. 31, 2027, and the statewide firearms season runs Oct. 17, 2026 through Jan. 10, 2027. The season limit is 12 deer, with no more than two antlered. Legal deer guns are centerfire rifles and handguns of .22 caliber or larger with expanding bullets, shotguns 20 gauge or larger loaded with slugs or buckshot, and muzzleloaders .30 caliber or larger. Either-sex days follow color-coded county zones, so check the current regulations for your county.

Georgia's public firearms ranges sit on Wildlife Management Areas run by the DNR Wildlife Resources Division, plus two ranges on Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest ground. The old Georgia Outdoor Recreational Pass has been retired, so anyone 16 or older now needs a hunting license, a fishing license or a Lands Pass, and the national-forest ranges charge a separate daily or annual fee paid through the Recreation.gov app.
