Hardwood ridges in the north Georgia mountains, pine plantations in the middle of the state, river swamps and the coastal marsh: Georgia covers a lot of hunting ground. Whitetail and hogs keep a rifle busy almost everywhere in between, and long sits in a box blind or ladder stand are part of the routine.

The Mini Rogue line from Fierce Firearms is built for youth, women and smaller-framed hunters who want a rifle that fits. It pairs a carbon fiber stock with a shorter length of pull and an adjustable comb or cheek piece. Chamberings include 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm-08 Remington and 308 Winchester, with 18 to 22 in barrels and an integral bipod rail for shooting lanes and food plots.

308 Winchester is the classic all-round hunting round: proven on deer, hogs and black bear, with factory ammunition available everywhere. In a rifle this light, 308 recoil is noticeable for a small buyer; a 6.5 Creedmoor or 7mm-08 is the gentler start.

Under the carbon stock sits Fierce's stainless steel dual-lug action with a 70-degree bolt throw and a spiral-fluted bolt. The trigger is a Bix'n Andy Dakota, adjustable, and the barrel is match grade and hand lapped.

This rifle has a 20 in barrel, 4+1 capacity, and weighs about 5.8 lb. Finish: Purple Carbon Fiber Camo.

Short arms and a long stock do not mix. When the length of pull fits, a young hunter can hold steady off shooting sticks or a box blind rail without strain. Then adjust the comb so the eye lands behind the scope without searching. Use 22 or 25 Creedmoor for a first season, and graduate to 6.5 Creedmoor when the shooter is ready.
